THE ORIGINS
Formed by a group of seven skilled moon elven rangers over a century ago. Established by the wood elves of Greenwood with the purpose of defending the forest and its neighboring settlements from the beasts within. For the past century, the Gladhier (Guardians in Low Sylvic) have been responsible for guarding this region. Over time, the original seven Gladhier Rangers mentored and trained new members. In the past few decades alone, not only elves of other tribes have joined the guild, but also humans, dwarves, even the occasional brutan. With over one hundred members in the current day. The seven elders training new young rangers from all walks of life the sacred art of wilderness survival, tracking, trap making, ranged and martial combat. A Gladhier Ranger is expected to under go five years of intense training and education regarding combating the many dire beasts that plague the land.
THE COUNCIL
The council of the Gladhier Guild is made up of the seven original wood elves who founded the guild over a century ago. They operate democratically, new recruits must be approved by a majority vote and are required to have a written referral from a marked ranger of the guild. This council of elders is responsible for dealing with foreign powers, typically electing a single member of the council to act as a temporary foreign diplomat when needed. There are no secrets between the council, bonded by marked by ritual and bound by blood, they are the eldest and most skilled rangers in the guild.
THE HUNT
All Gladhier members, after the conclusion of their five year education and training, are sent on a quest to prove their worth. Claiming the bones of their first slain monster is a right of passage for all Gladhier rangers and many spend days, weeks, even months on their great hunt, seeking the largest and most powerful beast they can find. The greater the prey they hunt, the greater the honor and respect they will receive. It is from the bones of their first kill that they craft a bone weapon. This tradition has been carried out ever since the elders formed the guild. The young Gladhier then carves their name into their newly crafted bone weapon. Usually these weapons are purely ceremonial, but depending on the creature slain and the skill of the ranger, some of these ceremonial bone weapons can be extremely deadly. It is after their 1st beast is slain, their weapon carved of its bones and the proper death rites preformed over the corpse of their prey, that their great hunt is complete.
THE MARK
Upon completion of each Gladhiers great hunt, they go before the elders with pride and their weapon of crafted bone as proof of their victory. It is then that they take part in a sacred blood ritual, speaking the creed of the Guild with honor. Magically linking them to their brothers and sisters in arms. Marked on their forearm with the runic symbol of the Gladhier of Greenwood. A tree encircled in its own roots, bound just as the Glahier are bound. It is only when marked that a young ranger in training officially joins the family and becomes a Gladhier. Whenever a ranger with the mark is in danger and calls out for assistance, the magic of the runic mark will send a signal to the closest ranger to them, regardless of distance. Glowing brighter the closer two ranger get to each other. When one ranger dies, all marks will glow brightly and the sorrow of the rangers loss will be felt by all, regardless how far apart. The Gladhier are a family of mixed races a hundred members strong. Some eventually leave the Greenwood in search of a greater destiny, but all remain linked and are welcomed home link family. Gladhier are guardians, protectors of the innocent, forever bound by blood and magic.
