Griffin: A griffin is a ferocious avian carnivore with the muscular body of a lion and the head, forelegs, and wings of an eagle. Tamed Griffins are extremely rare and expensive but can be trained to become exceptionally powerful mounts. A fully grown adult griffin can grow up to eight feet tall head to claw, and up to ten feet long, with a wing span of 20-25 feet. Wild Griffins are often found in high mountainous regions as they hunt in packs of four to seven individuals.
Phoenix: An extremely rare, perhaps even nearly extinct species. These flaming birds are seen as omens of good luck and a prosperous future. It is said the tears of a phoenix can cure all sickness, remove all poison and regenerate all wounds. Though very few have ever been able to capture one in order to test this belief. What is known for certain, is that the ash of a phoenix is a powerful alchemical ingredient, used to create extremely powerful healing elixirs.
Harpy: A harpy is a feral creature with the upper body of a humanoid and the lower body of a scaled reptile. With clawed hands and feet, feathered wings along their lanky arms, fanged teeth and eyes as black as night. Their hair is usually long, tangled and covered in dirt and grime. Harpies are notorious cruel and sadistic, taking joy in hunting, torturing and killing their victims in horrifying ways. When done playing with their captives, they devour them whole, leaving nothing but bone.
Strix: A strix is a large bird with the appearance of an raven, feathers pitch black and eyes cold as ice. They can grow up to four feet tall with a ten foot wing span. Their beaks full of tiny serrated teeth, able to smell freshly spilled blood from many miles away. Traveling in hosts of up to twenty to thirty individuals. These giant fanged ravens feed are scavengers and feed on corpses, often seen following armies at a distance after a battle.
Tengu: Humanoid birdmen of varying levels of intelligence, Located deep within the aviarician jungle. They vary greatly in appearance and can be a humanoid form of any kind of common bird. Incapable of flight, yet covered from head to toe in feathers, these creatures are isolationists by nature and wont seek out trouble, but wont hesitate to slaughter anyone who dares approach their nests uninvited.
Stymph: Giant eagles of monstrous size, often three to four times the size of an average adult griffin. Highly intelligent and honorable creatures, the Stymph of the boreal mountains are said to live over a thousand years and in times past, have been known to assist mortals when their interests align. Stymph are private and solitary creatures, only coming together once a century to mate and raise children for a decade before return to the wilds. Seeking freedom in all they do, those who wish to constrain them will face the fight of their lives.
Cockatrice: The cockatrice looks like a hideous hybrid of scaly lizard, feathered bird, and leathery bat. Infamous for its ability to turn flesh to stone. These omnivores typically keep to themselves but are skittish. They would be no threat to anything else if not for their fierce and frenzied response to even a hint of danger. A cockatrice flies into the face of any threat, squawking and madly beating its wings as its head darts out to peck. The smallest scratch from a cockatrice's beak can spell doom as its victim slowly turns to stone from the infection, which typically take around three days.
