Ichorborne
Order Of Tenebros
"We exist not for the glory - We persist not for the battle - We bleed not for the people - We only die for a purpose."
"We exist not for the glory - We persist not for the battle - We bleed not for the people - We only die for a purpose."
What?
The Ichorborne's origins were always quite mysterious, even to its members. Most believe that the Ichorborne were born out of the Crusadrem Order. However, evidence gathered by the more curious hunters seem to say that this guild dates back far before the times of the Crusadrem, possibly even before the great calamity. Templars they were, warrior monks to be precise. Not only that, they were scholars and mages with knowledge unrivaled in the world of the dark arts that expanded further as time went on. They have ruins and temples scattered across the wilds. Many have tried to pry their secrets but they have been encoded in riddles and ancient runic script in a dabbling of Celestial, Infernal, and Elemental tongues mashed into some kind of hybrid that acted as their own secret language. However, in spite of this ancient and sparing association, the Ichorborne remain, powerful and kicking into the current day. Ichorborne apprentices are chosen from mentors, whom were chosen from mentors, and so on. Explanation on how this simplistic process started eludes them but they rarely ever question it. Once their initiation is complete, the manner of which is dependent on the mentor, they gain access to secret faculties hidden across the land. It gives the hunters equipment, knowledge, and direction on occasion, all directed towards the eradication of monsters and evil sorcerers. It is rare for the members to ask questions and those that do likely won't receive any answers.
Why?
Hunters have their own reason to work for the Ichorborne. They were chosen by their mentors for reasons that vary. Each member is completely autonomous, the rules they follow depends on them. Of course, members have the tendency to disappear after they've done something wrong, such as taking dips into the darkness and becoming monsters themselves. Dealing with darker aspects of sorcery and the occult. All they know is that the Ichorborne help as long as they fulfill the task of dousing the malice in the world.
How?
The facilities of the Ichorborne are... unorthodox. There always seems to be some sort of faculty nearby to which their masters taught of their locations. Be it in through a secret door in a library, or under a boulder in a mountain pass, they are vast and numerous. At times, they can be in the most inconvenient of places, such as in the ladies' comfort room. Why and how they are there eludes the Tenebros as much as the common folk but they don't bother asking. These facilities are fountains of knowledge and lore as well as materials. Libraries filled with books on monsters, magic, and ancient history, alchemical materials and equipment to make them. As well as a collection of maps of just about any location in the empire, all managed together by an anchored spirit that guards the strongholds, arranging the books, cleaning the place up, and at times talking to the hunters that pass through. These facilities host as their bases and appear all across the land in improbable locations, likely thanks to sorcerous interventions. It is often the case that the places where these strongholds lie seem too small to hold them. The Ichorborne rarely ever work together, some never even meet another. They are merely faceless men doing the bidding of this ancient occult force. The only item they have to signify their loyalty are brands scattered across their body, burnt on them through mystical means. Psionically alerting high ranking superiors of the order when one of their members die. These marks have one other use though, they give a stinging sensation whenever a dark spirit or monstrous soul is near. The Ichorborne seem to have access to knowledge on the Veil, Limbo, The Astral Sea and other such realms as if almost omnipresent. Many members speculate the founders were not mortal men. It would certain explain how they are aware of any dark being that escapes the notice of the empire. Though, the knowledge that the strongholds hold are unbefitting of their nature.
