Vampires
Elder | Trueborn | Dampyr | Yaksha | Lamia
STAFF PERMISSION REQUIRED TO CREATE A CHARACTER WITH VAMPIRISM
Elder: The 1st generation of vampires, they are the oldest and most powerful vampires in Mortalum, originators of their species. Nobody knows exactly how many elders exist, but estimates range anywhere from barely a dozen, to over a hundred. Elders are immortal, ageless, only permanently killable via a blade crafted from a dragon bone, then drenched and coated in the blood of a shade. Such blades are rare and difficult to create and the shades blood even harder and rarer to find. Elders have the appearance of a monstrous mutated elf, with fanged teeth, pale skin, long white hair and eyes blood red. Their is twisted with a bat like appearance and such elders are known to have powerful psionic abilities. They have resided in Mortalum for roughly fifteen hundred years, yet know one truly knows where they came from. But their physical strength, speed, agility, durability, endurance and senses have all been magnified over a hundred times greater then an average member of the mortal races. They hunger for blood, but can easily go decades without feeding, even when starved they will continue to breath, unable to truly die. Their regenerative abilities far greater then that of any other known creature, even granting them immunity to sunlight unlike lesser vampire. Without a blade of dragons bone coated in shades blood, an Elder Vampire will never truly die, even if torn apart and turned to dust, the ashes will reform and they will rise again. Elders are also immune to the venom of lycanthropes, however a bite from such a creature will cause them roughly an hour or so of intense physical pain before the toxin leaves their system. Drinking the blood of an undead or possessed creature will also result in several hours of similar intense physical pain.
Trueborn: The trueborn are the 2nd generation of vampires, those who have drunk the blood of an elder and died, raised to life as a trueborn vampire. Having red eyes and pale, sickly skin, but much more normal in appearance with fanged teeth similar to an elders. They can be of any race and while not as physically powerful as an elder, their physical prowess several times greater then that of an average member of their species. While they do not age or grow sick, their intense hunger for fresh blood is strong, yet controllable with time and practice. Unlike the elders, a trueborn vampire is only able to regenerate as long as they regularly consume mortal blood. If they are forcibly starved they will eventually be driven mad with hunger, their regenerative abilities will fade and they will waste away, transforming into a Yaksha. Trueborn vampires like elders are vulnerable to blades made of dragon bone, however due to the weaker nature of their regenerative abilities, coating the bone blade in shades blood is unnecessary. Trueborn vampires are able to survive in direct sunlight for several minutes at a time, before eventually catching fire and burning to ash. Its a slow smoldering effect, but if wearing protective clothing, this can be managed. Unlike an Elder, a Trueborn's psionic powers are much weaker, only retaining the ability for telepathy. They are also vulnerable to the venom of lycanthropes, a powerful toxin that defies their regenerative healing. Such a bite from a lycanthrope will typically kill them within a day. In the same way, drinking the blood of a possessed or undead creature will cancel out a Trueborns regenerative healing for several hours. Causing intense pain in that time and leaving them vulnerable to being killed via ordinary means.
Dampyr: The Dampyr are the 3rd generation of vampires, those who have drunk the blood of a Trueborn and died, raised to life as a Dampyr. These young vampires are not truly immortal like an Elder or Trueborn, however the transformation does grant them many centuries of life in addition to their previous mortal lifespan. Dampyr will eventually grow old and die, some Dampyr are known to have lived up to one thousand years. However unlike the Elders and Trueborn, this 3rd generation only has two to three times the average physical prowess of their race. Their red eyes and pale sickly skin is lessened and they only retain two fanged canines that extend outward when feeding. Dampyr are extremely vulnerable to the sun, only a few seconds of direct sunlight will burn them and cause them to catch fire. Dampyr are by far the most common type of vampire and easiest to kill. Their regenerative abilities are still strong, but slightly lesser then a Trueborn's and their hunger for fresh blood is less controllable, often making them stubborn, impatient and predictable. Vampire hunters only require a simple sword of any kind, coated in the blood of a dragon to kill them. Similar to a Trueborn, they only retain the psionic power of telepathy and if starved their regenerative abilities will fade, they will wither away, becoming a Yaksha. They are also vulnerable to the venom of lycanthropes, a powerful toxin that defies their regenerative healing. Such a bite from a lycanthrope will typically kill them within a few hours. In the same way, drinking the blood of a possessed or undead creature will permanently cancel out their regenerative healing, leaving them vulnerable to attacks via common weapons. Silver will also burn these lesser vampires similar to werewolves.
Yaksha: A yaksha is a Trueborn or Dampyr that has been starved of blood for a long period of time. As they slowly wither away, they become feral, the intelligence they once had eroded into madness as the intense hunger consumes them. These wild feral vampires are much more dangerous then their intelligent counterparts. They are unable to be reasoned with and incapable of mercy, upon the slightest scent of blood, a Yaksha will falling into an uncontrollable rage, slaughtering any living creature before them and destroying everything in their path. These creatures have lost their regenerative ability and while not easy, they can be killed with common weapons. Yaksha bitten by a lycanthrope will typically die of the venom within a matter of minutes. Silver will also burn these lesser vampires similar to werewolves.
Lamia: These are corrupted vampires of any kind that specifically hunt and devour only young children, their unnatural hunger for both flesh and blood makes them a horrifying threat to contend with. Lamia's have a twisted monstrous form with the appearance similar to that of a humanoid bat, with leathery skin and wings, pure black eyes and lanky arms and claws with unnatural fangs. These humanoid bats are wild and feral similar to Yaksha, but unlike a Yaksha, a Lamia was merely a Trueborn or Dampyr, twisted and mutated by dark and vile sorcery. Often growing to be seven to eight feet tall. These batlike beasts are feared greatly and children are told bedtime stories about them to scare them. Solitary creatures, they are known to kidnap children that stray to far and wander off. Consuming flesh, blood and bone, leaving no trace behind. A Lamia bitten by a lycanthrope will typically die of the venom within a day or so. Silver will also burn these creatures and is known to be extremely toxic to them.
