COMMON UNDEAD
Ghoul | Anima | Poltergeist | Revenant | Spectre | Lich
GHOUL: Your classic humanoid zombie, skeletal cannibalistic soulless corpse that everyone knows and loves. Can be of any race, even after a soul passes into the veil, their body can still be reanimated as a mindless minion through the power of necromancy. Binding spirits to corpses of the dead. A practice outlawed in the kingdom but with great risk to the practitioner, often requiring the sorcerer to dominate the will of the spirit, or else be attacked by their own undead creation.
ANIMA: Essentially the animal version of a ghoul, corpses of animals tend to be even harder to control then humanoids. However with the intensity of will while dominating the spirit bound to the corpse, one can command them to a limited degree. Though Anima tend to have a nasty habit of attacking other anima that are of different species.
POLTERGEIST: Spirits trapped and/or bound to a specific location. Often summoned and bound to an object known as an anchor that ties them to a specific area. This can happen naturally for various reasons, but it can also be done purposefully by a skilled enchanter binding the spirit to an object. This spirit haunts the area they are bound to and can only be freed through exorcism or by destroying the anchor. However angry spirits freed from a destroyed anchor may wreck havok on all those nearby before moving on.
REVENANT: When a revenant returns from death, it reclaims and possesses its original mortal body and superficially resembles a ghoul. Having made a deal with the reaper to send them back until they achieve vengeance. A revenant's eyes burn with resolve and flare in the presence of its adversary. If the revenant's original body was destroyed or is otherwise unavailable, the spirit of the revenant enters another humanoid corpse. Regardless of the body, the revenant easily body hops when its vessel is destroyed. Unable to be die unless their target is vanquished or they are banished back to the veil via exorcism. A revenant exists only for revenge. It will fulfill its vengeful desires by any means necessary. When its adversary dies, or if the revenant fails to kill its adversary before its time runs out, it turns to dust and returns to the veil.
SPECTRE: Artificial ghostly spirits forged from a tiny sliver of the casters own soul. Barely conscious and gifted with minimal intelligence, a Spectre serves their creator diligently in whatever task they are given. Only able to interact with the world via minimal psychic power. They can be easily banished via exorcism or destroyed via some other enchanted weaponry. Upon their death, the sliver of their creators soul returns to them. Those who divide their souls multiple times are able to create many spectre servants. However they are all bound to the life of their creator and if they die, so does the Spectre.
LICH: Mortals who have magically bound their souls to their bodies. So that upon their death their soul will remain trapped within their corpse, unable to pass on. Resurrecting them as an intelligent and powerful undead sorcerer. Only killable by burning their bodies to ash so that their soul can be released. Liches are extremely rare, but every time a new lich emerges, it marks a time of great suffering. Masters of necromancy, these abyssal sorcerers are known to flood with the land with legions of undead servants. Thus the kingdom has strictly banned the practice of such dark magic.
